Discover Romance at the Norman Public Library

Prepare for Valentines Day with a weekend of romance writing! Love is in the air at the Norman Public Library as the library, Pioneer Library System, Friends of the Norman Library, the Norman Arts Council and the Oklahoma Arts Council team to present a weekend of romance book sales, panel discussions and a writing workshop.

The annual Friends of the Norman Library Romance Book Sale will be Saturday, February 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, February 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. The sale will feature an assortment of romance novels and short story collections, as well as a selection of videos and nonfiction sharing a theme of love and romance. Proceeds from the sale are used to support projects and programs of the Norman Public Library.

From 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 10, four Oklahoma romance authors will present Discover Oklahoma Romance. Ron Stahl, Director of Marketing for the Oklahoma Tourism and Travel Department and co-host of the Discover Oklahoma television series, will moderate the panel discussion.

Joining Stahl will be best-selling romance authors Sharon Sala, Christine Rimmer, Mel Odom, and Crystal Inman. The authors’ areas of specialty include paranormal romance, contemporary romance, suspense/thriller, and comedy.

Romantic door prizes will be awarded and include fragrance gift baskets from Dillard’s, discounts at the Montford Inn, and arrangements from Betty Lou’s Flowers. The Romance Authors’ Panel is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Following the panel discussion, author Mel Odom will conduct a Romance Writing Workshop at 1:30 p.m. for aspiring or fledgling authors. Odom is a full-time writer with many published works to his name. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Professional Writers Hall of Fame and received the Alex Award for his fantasy novel The Rover. The first novel in his Apocalypse series, Apocalypse Dawn, continues to appear on the best-seller list. Odom resides in Oklahoma with his wife and five children.

The workshop event is free and open to the public; however, registration is required due to limited space. For more information and to register, contact the Norman Arts Council at 405.360.1162.

The Pioneer Library System, Norman Arts Council Hotel Tax Fund, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts provide funding for the Discover Oklahoma Romance Panel and the Mel Odom Romance Writing Workshop for the Arts.

The Norman Public Library is one of the hometown public libraries operated by the Pioneer Library System. For more information about the programs and services offered by the library, call 405.701.2600 or log on to http://www.justsoyouknow.us/.

Christine,

This sounds like a great event! Norman is a little far for me--but I am sure that it would be a blast. :)

Have a great day!

I just found you!!! LOL...I'm a little slow...

Congrats on the new blog, Chris, and I hope you're staying warm!! It snowed in Malibu yesterday so...that's weird. Not exactly a freezing ice storm, but we're a fragile bunch out here. *g*

Have a great time at your library event. Sounds like fun!

Kim! And Kim! I am just sitting here grinning away to see all my buddies again. Yay!

Sean, welcome! I will drop by your blog and check it out.

Cady, I know. Free. And then they give us lunch after at Legend's, which is one of the best restaurants in town. Amazing and terrific and I wish you all could come...

But it's payback, because usually *I'm* the one longing to be in California to attend some OCC event. LOL

Maureenie, you always say just the right thing. And yeah, Jimmy is the best!

Kate, hey! More snow on the way here. I guess if it's snowing in Malibu,I shouldn't gripe.
